Present: Pat Pithey, Ivy Schultz, Natalie Haagenson, Suzanne Pehl, Jody Friskop, Pastor Jule, Darcy Meide and Jeff Olson
Spiritual Direction: Pat led us with devotions
Vision Process Update:
Vision II was held and about 40 people attended. Many ideas and comments were shared.
COMMITTEES:
Youth Activities:
Graduation:
May 18th will be Senior Recognition Sunday at the 9am service. A brunch in the Centineal Room will follow. Gifts were purchased by Bob to present to our graduates.
Confirmation:
On May 4th, sixteen youth were confirmed at Bethel. They were given scrapbooks and keychains from Bethe. Darcy purchased the supplies for the scrapbooks. She is to be reimbursed. The final night of confirmation hot dogs were served and games were played. Everything was indoors due to the weather. There was a lot of good feedback on the drug enforcement speaker that the youth and parents listened to one night at confirmation.
Communion Prep:
A motion by Darcy was made for the Christian Education Board to
absorb the cost of the communion preparation class. It was approved.
Sunday School:
Natalie addressed the office space concerns. She will be sending a request to the Board of Property and Management for a larger space for the Sunday School coordinators. Pastor Jule talked about the need for a Director of Music and Worship. This individual will oversee the adult and youth choir, organist and bell choir. A possibility would be to see if Laurie LeKang has any students that need an internship. The laptop in Ivy’s office, the one she shares with Julie and Laura, needs to be replaced.
The last day of Sunday School will be on May 18. There will be a puppet show. Next year we are looking at having music in two groups. Each group will meet for 20 minutes. The registration forms have been sent out. Most of the teachers for the 2008-2009 year have committed. Perry Miller and Jeff Hage will be the junior high Sunday School leaders. This level is not required but highly suggested. We talked about background checks on our volunteers. We will start doing this next fall. Natalie addressed how we are very fortunate in having two great Sunday School Cordinators. Pat will be sending thank you notes to Julie and Laura for all their hard work and dedication to our program. Natalie will recognize them during Sunday School.
Youth Activities:
On June 11th we will be having our Drive-In event. This will be held at the Bethel parking lots. The youth going to New Orleans, along with their families, will be helping.
On June 7th, there will be a trip to ValleyFair. We will be soliciting drivers.
We have 34 youth that are interested in attending the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans next summer. With adult chaperones, the number should jump to around 42 attending. The estimated total cost is around $36,000. As of today, we have $4,000. in our gathering account. We plan on renting a bus and driving to the New Orleans.
Community Vacation Bible School:
Volunteers are still needed.
Miscellaneous:
Ivy mentioned she would like to attend the ELCA Youth Worker’s Convention. The convention is being held February 5-9th and would cost $1,100-1,200.
